February Meeting Filtration

Our second meeting this year was a discusion of various filtration methods.  Some of most widely used units in the group were box and sponge filters.  Followed by hang on Back type filtration (HOB).

Most notiably was the lack of use of chemical filtration (Activated Carbon) media.  General feeling of the group is that the cost is high to maintain, and the payoff is little on a well established tank.  Carbon filtration does have its place.

Chemical filtration is used to remove tannins from the water column that may leach out from driftwood.  It can be used to remove medication from a tank.  Certainly help keep new tanks stable while while your biological filtration is not quite established.

We gave away 6 one year subscriptions to Amazonas Magazine.  This mapazine is published bi-monthly.  Check out the link at the top of the page.

See you all next month!
